Program Activity

Year to Year Comparisons

MAEA ‘s programs have increased consistently over the years. In 2002 MAEA underwent a refocusing of our efforts in anticipation of the development of the Science Center. The increase in participants is a reflection of the addition of another presenter to free up more of my time for fund-raising.

With the addition of new presenters at the end of 2002 and another in the middle of 2003, we are now experiencing a greater number of programs and participants than in the past.

Above:  This is the current MAEA van that we are using.  The picture of Science Man on the side of the van creates excitement wherever we go.  With the addition of our new presenters we are now in need of more vehicles to keep up with the demand for our programs.

The students of the United States rank low on standardized science and math tests compared to students in many parts of the world.  If we want to regain our leadership as the country of high tech innovation, we must have an educated work force.

In order to make the students of the United States more competent and competitive in the global work force as they were in the past, we must do a better job of preparing them now.

One of the keys to a better prepared student is a better prepared teacher.  One of the goals of the Science Center is to excite students and teachers about science, and give teachers tools to make hands on science a reality in the classroom.

As displayed on the above chart, the numbers of teachers that we provide professional development for must be increased. These numbers reflect an increase from 2003, but our long range goal is to increase this number to approximately 5000 annually. Another change from 2002 is that our overall percentage of elementary school students has now surpassed our number of middle school students.

Sponsored program are programs paid for by a third party other than the school or school district. One of our goals for 2003 was to increase the number of sponsored programs that we provide each year. In 2003 we provided the same number of sponsored programs as 2002, but we provided those programs to hundreds more students. As our long range plans call for us to increase our sponsoring efforts, we hope to increase both number of programs and students in 2004.
